The right side of the brain is responsible for imagination and creative thought. It’s a skill that children need to not only design and be artistic but also think about how to tackle everyday problems innovatively and effectively. As with any skill, it’s something that they will need to practise in order to develop. Below is a list of fun activities from a private school in Richmond that you can do with your child to help boost their imagination.
Read Together
Reading is a great way to help children expand their world view and become better thinkers. As they read, they are encouraged to think about what will happen next and develop their own theories. They must also follow on by building a mental image using their creativity and imagination.

Writing
If they like reading, why don’t you push them to write a novel of their own? It doesn’t need to be hundreds of pages long and can be a short story that they put together in a few paragraphs. It will give them the chance to create plots and think creatively when it comes to putting it all together.
Arts and Crafts
Crafting can be fun as children are given complete control. It’s relaxing and most importantly gets them to exercise these all-important skills. As there’s no set task or anything as such, they can really explore their imagination and create something original.
These are just a few ways in which you can help your child to be more imaginative. Creativity is fleeting and sometimes we need a little inspiration. A short break where they soak up nature or a trip to a museum where they get to appreciate other artists and their work might be just what they need.
