We love this one and it comes recommended by the school our kids teach. As we entered yet another national lockdown and children were homeschooling once again, the Teach Your Monster To Read app for free to download for a short time so we downloaded it on both their tablets and the family iPad. Children have fun creating their very own monster before learning to read with it, as they journey through phonics phases. It’s game based learning and they love it. The app has even been nominated for a BAFTA award! It is usually around £4.99 to download to your device, however, if you don’t have tablets, there is a free version available on computers.

CBeebies Storytime

The world of TV shows you children may watch on CBeebies comes to life on the next of our reading apps for kids. There are stories for all and your children can choose to read themselves or follow along the words as the stories are read out to them. Furthermore, the app is free. ABC Mouse

You may have seen ABC Mouse advertised on the TV. You get a free trial and then there is a monthly cost for the app. Your children will enjoy a variety of tasks that help them to read. they’ll also be able to track their progression and gather rewards along the way. The lessons go beyond learning to read, with maths, art, science and more. We like ABC Mouse in our home.

Dr. Seuss Treasury

If you and your little ones love the books of Dr. Seuss, download the app so they can have access to over 50 of them. Enjoy your favourite characters and get to grips with all those tricky rhyming words. You’ll find The Cat In The Hat, Fox In Socks, Green Eggs & Ham and many more!
