The school holidays are almost here, where 6 weeks of the year your child will be spent at home. So how are you going to fill the time with activities that are fun and educational? Read the top 5 activities to take part in this summer with one of the best independent schools in Surrey.

1. A day trip out

Visiting a museum, going to a heritage site, or going on a woodland walk are all ways you can add educational elements to your day. You can make a worksheet and ask your child to fill it in as they go.

2. Make a scrapbook

For all your memories in the summer holidays, ask your child to make a scrapbook to add to each day. Ask them on each entry to add a fun fact they learnt on that day so that they look back on it knowing they’ve learnt something new.

3. Make a murder mystery event

A bit like Cluedo, but in real life. Ask your child to invite friends around as you set the scene in the house. This is a great way of letting kids practice their critical thinking skills.

4. Grow plants in the garden

You could make a small project for your child by giving them seeds to plant at the start of the summer holidays and asking them to write a small diary entry about its growth once a week. By the end of the summer holidays, hopefully with significant plant growth, your child can take a picture of the final result.

5. Geocaching

This involves looking through secret codes and using coordinates to find hidden treasures. They’re often small relics that people can take and replace with treasures of their own. The best part is they’re found all around the world, so it can be done as a fun activity wherever you are.
