Today, the United Kingdom is entering another lockdown. The Covid 19 pandemic is royally battering our nation and there seems to be no other alternative but to bunker down once again, stay at home and try to stop the spread. Whilst the vaccination roll out continues, our schools are closed. Fortunately though, there are ways to get some homeschooling UK lockdown help. If your school and teachers haven’t yet sorted out how they’re going to be sending work home – how would they when the announcement of closure was at 8pm last night?! – there are a few ways to get print outs and activities for your kids to learn with.

Daily Worksheets
One of the best toy companies is stepping up and offering free worksheets for you to download and print off. Orchard Toys are releasing worksheets every morning for you to help your children learn. They’re releasing them on their website but are putting the links on their social media accounts. It’s great to see companies stepping up and doing their bit, offering homeschooling UK lockdown help to parents across the nation. Check out there Facebook page and give them a like too. Did you know they even offer free replacement pieces so you can continue playing your games? Keeping them out of landfill and allowing kids to stay entertained and have fun!
Loads Of Resources
If you’re looking for a treasure trove of resources, maybe to print off a whole heap of sheet in one go to keep the kids going, you need Twinkl. You can set up a free account and download lots of worksheets to print out. You can sign up to Twinkl for free, gaining access to 40,000 resources. However, there are subscriptions available, at different price levels for different things. From £4.49 a month you can get access to loads of resources for 0 – 16 year olds. This is a great price if you have a few kids in that age bracket, as you can access something for everyone! The company offered a 1 Month Free Ultimate Membership during the first lockdown back in 2020. Keep an eye out and see if they do the same thing.
Learn On Their Tablets
Do your kids have tablets? We bought ours an affordable one each during the first lockdown. We then signed up to ABC Mouse which is a great resource and great for homeschooling UK lockdown help. If you have primary school aged children, this could be ideal! ABC Mouse is a subscription-based digital education program for children ages 2–8. You can also access a free one month trial! This could be perfect to help them learn, especially if you need to work from home. They’ll have some tab-time, without releasing they’re even learning. Learning is fun and this is a great way to promote that!
Live On YouTube
You may remember that some TV presenters, personalities and general all round amazing people stepped up during the first lockdown. Providing amazing content for our kids to enjoy and learn from, there is ore confirmed already for this lockdown. The likes of Maddie Moate, Joe Wicks and Dr Chris & Dr Xand are all bringing live shows to social platforms for the whole family to enjoy. I know my lads will love the online bushcraft lessons that Ed Stafford and Steven Hanton are going to be doing. The BBC have also announced that there will be lessons on CBBC & BBC Two as well as online. You can read more about that here.

Not All Learning Is Done In The Classroom
Remember, not all learning is done in the classroom. It doesn’t have to be sit down at a desk with a worksheet to get some benefit out of your day. We learn by doing things too. Homeschool UK lockdown activities can include painting, gardening and physical exercise outside. How about showing them how to check the oil on your car? Or how to wire a plug? Or boil an egg? Maybe they can help stack the dishwasher, or put the dirty clothes in the washing machine. We learn through life as well as what we learn from school. Perhaps this is the perfect time to weigh out some ingredients and bake some bread for lunch? Don’t forget, books let your children escape the here and now and reading a book could be the perfect escapism needed.
Your child’s education is important, yes. Above all, their wellbeing is the most integral. There is academic help for students should you need it. Take some time to just be with them. They’re being moved around and will be struggling during this time as well. Give yourselves some time, practice self care and if you need to just cuddle up on the sofa in front of the TV, do that. Be kind.
