things to do in half term

Get Outdoors

You might have been enjoying regular walks around the area to enjoy some fresh air but getting outdoors is amazing for your wellbeing. You might not be able to travel too far because of the UK national lockdown however you can try some different walks in your area. Put your wellies or walking boots on and wander through parks, mud and streams. Take a flask of tea, some bars of chocolate and you camera to capture the memories. See if you can stop at a café offering takeaway sausage rolls of bacon sandwiches and enjoy the great outdoors. Being at one with nature for a little bit will do you the world of good.

Camp In The Living Room

If you cant go away on holiday like you might usually, how about getting the tent out of the loft and enjoying camping, but in your living room. You can enjoy sleeping under canvas, with the warmth of central heating. The kids will love this one!

Enjoy A Movie Marathon

Next on our list of things to do in half term is a movie marathon. Educate the kids with some classics like Back To The Future or The Karate Kid trilogies. Maybe you could start the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the right order. Perhaps the kids just want to watch all the Minion films back to back. sounds good to us!

Keep Up The Writing

Whilst you might not be home-schooling or encouraging too much education during the break, how about entering a short story competition?

Themed Days

If you’d usually be enjoying the culture of a different country, why don’t you enjoy some themed days at home instead? Order in from different takeaways, learn the language, take in some history, watch some YouTube videos about various countries. It can be a great way to learn a little something as well as have a lot of fun!

Virtual Tours

There are loads of places that you usually might consider visiting during half term, offering virtual tours. A lot of these you can join live online, around museums and zoos and castles. Others are pre-recorded and you can watch at a time to suits you. If you cant physically be there, you can enjoy a tourist attraction from the comfort of your own sofa, with a warm cup of tea in your hands!

Stargazing

One of our favourites on the things to do in half term with the kids. Stargazing opens up the universe as well as the imagination of your children. How many stars can you see in a short time period outside. Maybe, if its too cold, you can enjoy watching from inside instead? The annual Star Count also falls during the first week of half term so that’s perfect!

What will you be getting up to over the next week? What things to do in half term with the kids will you enjoy? Plan a staycation, enjoy a few days away as a family. Don’t forget to have down time and enjoy some self care too. Happy half term!
