Children hate maths, either because it’s too hard or boring. Many of you will probably also be able to relate. Nevertheless, it must be done – both in school and real life. Whether they’re going to pick up groceries or working out how long it will take them to get to their destination, your child will need a strong set of maths skills and this post shares how you can help them in this area.
This is a collaborative post that we put together with the help of an international study centre here in the UK.
Refer to YouTube Videos
Many parents had a go at home schooling in lockdown and now know the struggles of teaching. It’s not an easy thing to do as you must break down concepts into bite size chunks that make sense and ensure that you’re not unnecessarily complicating things. YouTube is a godsend when it comes to helping children with their work at home. Thanks to teachers and other parents, there are a wealth of resources online that you can use to learn the methods for teaching children different topics and play to them directly.

Premade Worksheets
To make life easier on yourself, there are also premade worksheets and lesson plans that you can find online to use and supplement the work that you’re doing with your child.
Use Everyday Examples
Part of the reason why children struggle with maths is that it seems foreign and unrelated to everyday life. You can use examples of where maths operations are used every day to gain their interest and help them in conceptualising maths problems.
